Everything! You see when searching for the owner of a cell phone number most people try to do it the ‘free’ way. The problem is that 90% of the time you spend 2 hours googling the number. If you’re lucky you may come across it on a website or a forum post but no other details – Basically two hours and a dead end!

There’s a partly free method and this where you can dial the number using *67  from a phone booth but don’t spend more than a $1 as some of the premium rate hustlers are just trying to get you to spend $3 calling back!

This works if you recognize the voice on the other end. Although the bottom line is it’s not going to give you that ‘hard copy’ evidence you want and it can be dangerous especially if it’s a malicious prankster or stalker.

Now on to more realistic paid searches.

The first method is to use a private detective. This can be expensive anywhere from $35 per hour up to $400 for a day! However the good news is if the number isn’t traceable it’s likely that you won’t get billed  and you should check this out beforehand – i.e. no result equals no fee.

In my opinion the best method is to use a reverse cell phone directory. As I said this will cost a bit – somewhere in the region of $10-$35 but in most cases you’ll get what you’ve paid for – that elusive number and better still it will only have taken about 5 minutes.

The best ones to go for allow you to do an initial search to check whether or not they have the phone number on their database. This is a necessary feature as even these directories have about an 85% success rate which means that if the number comes up you will be able to find the cell phone owner pretty quickly with no hassle.
